Description:

This course will be a hands on approach at building Web Standards based websites harnessing the power of Dreamweaver, Fireworks and CSS/XHTML. The course will cover how to dissect a site design and visualize the different XHTML elements and image slices needed to implement the design. It will also cover optimizing using the Fireworks optimization features, and how to build Dreamweaver templates to easily manage site updates and maintenance. In order to gain the most from this class you should be familiar with basic XHTML elements such as DIV and P tags, and basic CSS. There will be a short review and “cheatsheet” handouts to help with people that are coming in fresh.

Course Outline

Part 1: Class Introduction/CSS Basic overview

  • Overview of basic CSS properties.
  • Design introduction.

Part 2: Breaking Down a Design

  • Visualizing site elements
  • Identifying and making slices with Fireworks.
  • Optimizing graphics for web delivery.

Part 3: Building the Dreamweaver Template

  • Setting up the XHTML frame.
  • Applying/Implementing the assets with CSS
  • Create the Dreamweaver template and editable regions.

Part 4: Question/Answer session

  • Answer questions regarding the implemented design and other advanced CSS tricks.
